Bio

The unifying theme of Hal Scogin’s work has been a desire to help others understand and articulate the story that underlies important issues in the lives of their organizations.  He believes that the power of narrative is in its ability to connect the experience of people of different backgrounds, ethnicity, and
interests to each other.  The parts of the story we share is what forms and sustains an organization’s culture and community.

Hal’s perspective has been formed by experience in policy analysis, program management, and communication design. This background has given him broad and often deep experience in the areas of information design, content development for print and the web, data analysis and presentation, brand development, team building, and project management.

Over the last 25 years Hal has worked on projects in the fields of social and human services, criminal justice, economic development, education, transportation infrastructure, natural resources, healthcare, and many other areas.  His clients have included business, government, and non-profit organizations.  This range of projects and clients has served to feed Hal’s insatiable curiosity about how things and people work.

Hal’s academic background includes:  B.A. in Political Science - University of Houston; M.A. in Education - Stanford University; M.P.A - University of Washington.

After living, working and becoming educated in various parts of the country, Hal and his wife Pat settled in Olympia, Washington.  As it turns out, Western Washington is an ideal place to pursue their interests in cross-country skiing, hiking, canoeing, and reading.  It’s also a great launching pad for Hal’s interest in exploring the back roads and rural communities of the Northwest on his motorcycle.
